We built this baby room heater to be simple, focused, and genuinely practical. Think of it as a compact shortwave infrared heater—powered by a halogen element—that gives you one thing perfectly: targeted warmth in a small space. No fuss, no over-the-top power draw. Just the right kind of heat where you need it. Under the hood It plugs straight into your standard mains—230V or 240V—and runs at about 400W to 500W. That’s the sweet spot for a nursery: enough punch to warm a confined area fast, but still easy on the wiring. The tube is intentionally short, around 150mm to 200mm, so it slips into snug spots and aims the heat right where you want it. Why it works so well The heart of it is a quartz tube with a halogen fill. It heats up quickly and holds steady, which matters when you need comfort on demand. The filament runs hot, but the halogen cycle keeps it cleaner over time, so the output stays consistent. The tube coating helps manage infrared emission and shields the element from oils left by handling. And we use an R7s connector—just a clean, two-pin ceramic base that snaps in securely and handles the current without extra hardware. How it feels in the real world When you’re heating a baby’s room, you want predictable warmth, quick response, and a footprint that doesn’t take over the space. Shortwave infrared delivers that—instant heat, no waiting around. Just keep in mind, the source gets hot. So the enclosure needs good ventilation to keep local temperatures in check.
