It lets the heat soak in without creating a wall of burnt crust. Plus, these tubes play really well with PID controllers. Instead of a cheap thermostat that just clicks on and off—which usually leads to burnt edges—these controllers nudge the power up or down the second the temperature shifts by a single degree. It keeps things steady.
The Deal with Quartz
We build these tubes from high-purity quartz glass. The big win here is that quartz doesn’t freak out when the temperature swings. You can heat it up and cool it down rapidly, and it won’t crack under the pressure. And the best part? You get heat almost instantly. No waiting around for the oven to “catch up.” But, there is a catch. Quartz is a bit fragile. It doesn’t like being bumped, and it absolutely hates grease. If oil splashes onto the tube while it’s running, it creates a hot spot that can kill the tube pretty quickly. So, keep them clean. Seriously.
